‘Ding!’, ‘Ding!’, ‘Ding!’ I hear the bell chime as I step out of the car. Each guest is announced by the chime of the bell at the Monastero Santa Rosa. This converted Monastery is perched onto the edge of the Amalfi Coastline. It only has 40 rooms. On arrival you are greeted with freshly made lemonade and invited to step out onto the balcony, to be presented with panoramic views of the wonderful Amalfi Coast!
All the rooms are named after botanicals/floral that were once used by the Nuns of the Monastery. We were in room Viola. The room was decorated in a classic style, with dark wooden furniture and a beautiful green material headboard. The bathroom was extra special with a large bath and walk in shower. There are pomegranate bath salts from the world renowned Santa Maria Novella pharmacy in Florence and Ortega products from Sicily. The very high ceilings give a spacious cool feel.
Breakfast is a really lovely experience. Everything you could possibly require is brought directly to your table including delicious homemade pastries called Sfogliatelle. They were once made by the Nun’s at the Monastery and include lemon ricotta topped with custard and cherries.
Both the lunch and dinner menu’s are also exceptional, offering a fine selection of pasta, meat, fish, antipasti etc. Opt for the glorious lemon pudding if you still have room for dessert, which is made using the famous Amalfi lemons.
The infinity pool is really spectacular. The views from the pool area are breathtaking. There are beautifully planted borders full of flowers and plants including lavender, agapanthus and lemon trees which line the walkways down to the swimming pool.
The spa is must if you are staying at the hotel. It is now at the top of my list! Of all the spa’s in the world I would say this is now my favourite.
The Spa has an array of treatment areas to choose from including The Spa Suite which is designed for up to 4 guests. The Treatment Garden where guests can enjoy treatments outdoors overlooking the sea and the individual ‘Melograno’ or ‘Iris’ rooms which provide a cool & historic sanctuary for individual guests to relax & enjoy a treatment or two selected from the Santa Maria Novella treatment menu.
